Setting up
LUMAI needs a Philips Hue Bridge (2nd generation or Bridge Pro) on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone.
- On first launch, LUMAI looks for your bridge on the local network. iOS will ask for the Local Network permission — that permission is what lets the app find the bridge at all.
- When prompted, press the pairing button on your Hue Bridge. That
physical press is what authorizes LUMAI; there is no account to
create.
- Hue Bridge Pro: the button is in the middle of the large flat face. It is black on black, unlabelled and almost flush, so feel for it and press the centre firmly until it clicks.
- Square Hue Bridge (2nd generation): the round button on the top.
- If the bridge is not found automatically, you can enter its IP address manually instead.
Common questions
- Do I need an account? No. LUMAI has no accounts and no sign-in.
- Does it work away from home? Not in this version. LUMAI talks to your bridge over your local network only.
- What happens to the looks I save? They are real Hue scenes stored on your bridge, so they also appear in the official Hue app.
- Is the microphone required? No. Holding the microphone button, or switching on Live talk, is optional, and everything in LUMAI works without it. Speech is recognised on your iPhone; if your iPhone cannot do that on its own, the microphone stays off and typing still works.
- What data do you collect? No accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. Light commands go straight from your iPhone to your bridge on your home network and never pass through a server of ours. One request leaves your home network: while the pairing screen searches for your bridge, it also asks Signify's discovery service (the Philips Hue maker's) where your bridge is, at the same time as it searches your local network. The privacy policy describes it in full.
